The Biospere 2 in Oracle, Arizona is one of the man-made wonders of the world. To look at it is to see an engineering feat breathtaking to behold. After 9 years of neglected windows, the University of Arizona called us in to see if we could restore the sparkle to the windows.
As we inspected the windows, we noticed that the glass had become cloudy over time because the elements had settled onto the glass and adhered combining with a thin, greasy film coating originating from the heavy-duty caulking holding each panel of glass in place.
The building's once majestic look was deterriorated, and the light being blocked from the inside was taking it's toll on the plants.
We began cleaning at the top and worked our way down, leaving our trademark sparkle wherever we worked.
The project was a complex one, because the tenacity of the grime on the windows had to be acid treated by a product called SafeRestore™ and rigorously scrubbed in order to cut through and get us down to the glass. The acid is an extremely agressive one so as to achieve the level of cleanliness we were going for, yet one of the fascinating characterisitcs of SafeRestore™ is that it neutralizes when it comes in contact with water, which made it the ideal product for cleaning this particular job. Because we would be shedding so much run-off, and there was so much vegitation nearby, we needed the eco-friendliness combined with such a powerful cleaning agent.
After manually scrubbing each pane and frame with SafeRestore, we rinsed the Biosphere with Reverse Osmosis water to achieve the initial clean look. As you can see, it left behind streaks and generally moved dirt down the side of the building. After cutting through all of the grease and grime, the windows were finally in a condition that we could clean them.
By using our usual methods of scrubbing the glass with a special brush and rinsing with deionized water, we were able to polish the glass to a high luster shine, all while accessing the glass with specialized poles so we could clean the glass while standing flat-footed.
The methods we use in residential cleaning proved to be effective to get the "5 Star Result" that we have come to be known for.
The plants noticed an immediate difference, and began drinking in the sunlight at a rate they hadn't known for years!
After restoring the look of the biosphere there will be much less work in the future to clean the glass as long as the maintenance is kept up. All glass, when maintained properly stays looking nice in the Arizona desert year-round.
The incredible difference will help to keep the U of A's Biosphere 2 working properly and also keep visitors coming to enjoy the true beauty that such a building has to offer.
Our pride in our work is the key ingredient to our success. When it comes to being a window cleaner, there is a satisfaction that comes from taking dirty glass and making it clean to perfection. This satisfaction in doing a good job shows in all of our work!
Leaving the Biosphere 2 was exciting because we knew that the job had been done right and it showed at all hours of the day. Check out the News Coverage!
